Stars Upon Thars

It is of utmost importance to us here at MASH that our magazine be a national -- dare we say -- international concern. With each passing month we hope to broaden our horizons. But one of the many fabulous things about Los Angeles that we feel must be shared with y'all are ... STARS! Sorry, no matter how often you see them it never stops being cool glimpsing the famous. We've been told even the famous gape at their brethren. And what's nearly as much fun as seeing stars? Why, telling everyone!

Now, let's see. Who do we have for you this month ...

Just this past Sunday we glimpsed Erik Estrada strolling through a local San Fernando Valley Farmer's Market. This former CHiPster was inexplicably wearing what appeared to be a black velvet shirt and black velvet trousers. Don't get us wrong, he looked fabulous and strangely casual, but Lordy, he must have been hot as the hinges of hell! He was with a lovely young woman pushing a baby carriage and we assume they were wife and child, respectively.

We spotted Charlton Heston at good ol' Art's Deli in Studio City (pretty much guaranteed star sightings there). Although we don't agree with his politics -- or his acting for that matter -- we were tickled pink at the sight of him. He's huge! Larger than life! Normally Angelenos are very discreet when a celeb passes, and they were in this instance as well. But when Mr. Heston left the restaurant, every head in the place turned to watch him pass the front windows. Some even rose out of their seats as he folded himself and slipped into a black corvette. He couldn't possibly have been comfortable.

Just around the corner from Art's Deli, we saw Nick -- as his friends know him -- Cage jump out of his yellow Ferrari and grab a mag at our local newsstand.

Speaking of cars, we saw the A-Team Van! The poor dear was being towed. Alas, she looked beat-up and dated, wearing a faded red-racing striped black exterior and a very silly red spoiler. The crazy thing is, not two days before, we spied Mr. T buying fresh carrot juice and some other healthy food stuffs at the Whole Foods Market in Sherman Oaks. You'll be happy to know he was wearing a fisherman's hat, orange long sleeve shirt and one tiny understated gold chain.

At odd hours the more upscale supermarkets are also great venues for star gazing. Why we regularly catch the brilliant Charles Nelson Reilly pushing his cart through the Studio City Ralph's. He's one guy you can't pass by without thanking for a lifetime's entertainment. And how 'bout his most recent roles on "The X Files," "The Drew Carey Show," and "Millennium" for a well-deserved come back. Rock on, Chuck!

Until next time ... we'll keep our eyes open.
