Ron Marshall, Contemporary Abstract Painter

I was born in Jasper, TX, in December of 1946. I started painting when I was 13 - abstract paintings - even back then. Although I sometimes experiment with more figurative styles, my first love is non-objective painting. I work in oils, mixed media, watercolors, and sometimes pastels and inks. I like busy, active paintings - paintings with energy and inner tension. I leave placidity to those who feel content. I prefer the messy, slightly chaotic image over the neat, well-ordered one because life is messy and slightly chaotic - at least for me. Doing these types of paintings is a labor of passion. I greatly enjoy my work. And I'm constantly challenged by trying to create something from nothing, rather than simply duplicating in paint what I see before me in the natural world.
